MATTHEW BOULOUTIAN
CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Matthew established his freelance practice in 2003, while designing and teaching in New York City. He is most recently known for his lighthearted beer can design for Newburgh Brewing Company that won CNBC’s “Battle of the Beer Label” contest. His clients have included Metropolis Magazine, New York Magazine, USA Networks, The Philly Pops, Stewart Tabori and Chang, Pig Iron Theatre Company and BalletX. He taught design as an adjunct professor at The School of Visual Arts and Parsons the New School for Design. Previously, Matt worked at Platinum Design as a co-creative director, working with Saks Fifth Avenue, Pantone Inc., and ESPN. Matt received a BFA from Tyler School of Art in 1999 and was awarded the top portfolio award. Matt’s work is regularly published in international design publications and exhibited nationally.

VIVIAN GHAZARIAN
PARTNER

Vivian began her freelance career in New York in 2005 after her daughter was born and soon after the birth of her son established Modern Good with her husband and partner Matthew. Vivian previously worked at Artisan, a division of Workman publishing, art directing and designing books and cookbooks. Her first job in New York was as a senior designer at Doyle Partners, working on branding and packaging Martha Stewart’s products, designing books, book jackets, music and product packaging, and identities. Vivian’s career started in Philadelphia after graduating with honors from Moore College of Art and Design in 1992, earning her BFA in Graphic Design as a returning Gulf War veteran. She worked at Rector Communications, on marketing materials and annual reports, at The Franklin Institute designing exhibit graphics, signage, banners and promotional materials and at The Vanguard Group designing investment education materials. She also taught at her Alma Mater, Moore College of Art and Design. She has experience working with publishers, Fortune 500 companies and non-profit organizations. She currently leads a team of print and digital designers at Vanguard, enjoys the creative process and seeks it within herself, colleagues and her children.

After 35 years, The Philly Pops was reconsidering its identity, brand, and overall marketing strategy. The Philly Pops challenged Modern Good to reinterpret its identity through the creation of the 2014-2015 season show identities and brochure. With a tight deadline, Modern Good, under the creative leadership of Matt Bouloutian, worked efficiently with the Pops management and deftly moved The Philly Pops identity into a brilliant and colorful new visual chapter with 6 dazzling show posters and a smartly designed brochure presenting the entire season in a single glance. Modern Good is a brand smart studio.

At Pig Iron, most of our theatrical work was focused on distilling complex ideas into expressive gestures – using bodies, sets, sound, and lights to ask questions and tell stories in the most unexpected ways.
